Program Information

Purpose

To promote the development of domestic transportation technology and enhance technological competitiveness by inspiring technology developers (individuals or corporations) to develop transportation technology and by promoting the dissemination and utilization of developed transportation technology.

Legal Basis

  • Articles 102 through 103 of the "National Integrated Transportation System Efficiency Act" (hereinafter referred to as the "Act")
  • Articles 96 through 101 and Article 114-2, Paragraph 4 of the "Enforcement Decree of the National Integrated Transportation System Efficiency Act" (hereinafter referred to as the "Enforcement Decree")
  • Articles 42 through 48 of the "Enforcement Rules of the National Integrated Transportation System Efficiency Act" (hereinafter referred to as the "Enforcement Rules")
  • "Regulations on the Designation and Protection of New Transportation Technology, etc." (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations") (MOLIT Notice No. 2023-645)

Scope of Designation

Transportation technology developed for the first time domestically, or introduced from abroad and subsequently digested and improved, that is judged to possess novelty, inventiveness, etc. domestically and is recognized as needing to be disseminated and utilized, and for which the developer (including successors) has requested designation

Definition of Transportation Technology

  • Transportation Technology: Refers to technology related to the development, operation, and management of transportation means and transportation facilities.
  • Transportation Means: Automobiles, trains, aircraft, ships, etc. used to transport people or cargo
  • Transportation Facilities: Facilities such as roads, railways, airports, ports, and terminals necessary for the operation of transportation means, and facilities or structures attached to such facilities that assist the smooth operation of transportation means

Protection Period

Initially 8 years, extendable within a range of 3 to 7 years
